What IndexNow is

IndexNow is an open protocol that lets a website tell search engines the moment a page is added, updated or deleted. One notification is shared with every participating search engine, including Microsoft Bing, Yandex, Seznam.cz and Naver.

Without it, a search engine finds changes only when it next crawls your site, which can take days or weeks for less visited pages.

Why it matters for AI search too

Microsoft Copilot answers with Bing's index, and ChatGPT search draws on Bing as one of its sources. Getting pages into Bing quickly helps them reach those AI answers sooner.

What Indexidia does

  • Watches your sitemap for new and changed pages
  • Sends them to IndexNow with your site's key, in batches
  • Records what was sent and the response for every page
  • Skips pages that redirect, fail or are marked noindex

Does Google use IndexNow?

Google does not take part in IndexNow. For Google, Indexidia uses your sitemap and Search Console data to show which pages are indexed and why others are not.

IndexNow: frequently asked questions

What is IndexNow?

IndexNow is an open protocol that lets a website notify search engines the moment a page is added, updated or deleted. One notification is shared with all participating search engines, including Microsoft Bing, Yandex, Seznam.cz and Naver. Without it, search engines find changes only on their next crawl.

Does Google use IndexNow?

No. Google does not take part in IndexNow. For Google, Indexidia relies on your sitemap and, if you connect it, Search Console data to show which pages are indexed and why others are not.

How does Indexidia use IndexNow?

Indexidia watches your sitemap for new and changed pages and sends them to IndexNow with your site's key, in batches. It records what was sent and the answer for each page, and skips pages that redirect, fail or are marked noindex.

What is an IndexNow key?

The key is a short text file placed at the root of your site. It proves to search engines that the notifications really come from the owner of the site. Indexidia gives you the file and checks that it is in place.

Is IndexNow free?

Yes. IndexNow itself is free, and submitting your pages through Indexidia is included in the free plan.

Does submitting a page guarantee it will be indexed?

No. IndexNow makes sure search engines know about the page quickly. They still visit it and decide whether to index it based on its quality, the same as any other page.

Why does IndexNow matter for AI search?

Microsoft Copilot answers with Bing's index, and ChatGPT search uses Bing among its sources. When your new pages reach Bing quickly, they can reach those AI answers sooner.

How fast do pages show up in Bing?

Bing receives the notification within seconds of the submission. How quickly a page then appears in results depends on Bing's crawl and its judgement of the page, often hours to days rather than weeks.

Can IndexNow hurt my site?

No. It only tells search engines where to look. Submitting the same page several times does no harm, but Indexidia only sends pages that are new or have changed.

Do I need to change anything on my site?

Only one thing: upload the key file Indexidia gives you to the root of your site. After that, submissions happen automatically whenever your sitemap changes.
